Actually you guys can and should here the sermon yourself if you missed it due to any various reasons...you can find it on the website..this is a short summary of the points
Ps. Mike gave a lot of illustration and examples..so its best to listen..its all a long continuous story and too much good stuff to type
Victim Vs. Victor
Victim mentality- way of viewing oneself as powerless
Case Study
Jephthah (Judges 10 , 11)
- suffered tremendous injustice
- difficulty in parents relationship
- mother wanted to get rid of him
- hatred from step mom and step brothers
- thrown out of the house
- eventually ran away from home
What is our initial purpose? (view genesis and the story of Adam)
1)....
Gen 1:28
2) We are designed to win/excel
- Consider that one always feels good/satisfied in wining/achieving something
- One can use lost/defeat as stepping stone
3) We are created to choose
- Each of us have free will and the power to choose
4) We are created to take responsibilities for ourselves
- Take ownership of your choices
- Every decision has a consequence
- Challenges should be seen as opportunities
Symptoms of Having a Victim Mentality
1. Avoiding/Shifting Responsibilities
2. Blaming Others
- Failure to connect consequence to choice
- Too busy being bitter/hurt about something
3. Focus on Negativity/Problems and Complaining
4. Reactive
- Don't seek help from people
- Often angry when there is feedback
- Often think they are being attacked
5. Resentful, Bitter About People Around Them
- Running everyone down
- Angry and dissatisfied about other people doing better
6. Frustrated
- Always waiting for God/breakthrough instead of finding out how to position oneself to get a breakthrough
7. Passive
- Always hoping for something
- Never stepping out
- Full of unbelief
How we can become a victor & What we must do
Jephthah- "one who breaks through"
- He refused to be a victim
- He resolved the grief of injustice (even though he was treated unfairly he got over it)
- He developed his giftings when no one was looking
also
- Reach to the Lord to let Him heal
- Forgive whoever
- Get busy for the course of the Lord
